Spring Brings Change – Le Printemps Amène des Changements

Comme vous le saviez peut-être déjà, on a fait un sondage des membres pour savoir si vous aimeriez fermer le centre le samedi et être ouvert mardi à sa place. Le vote a été un gigantesque OUI ! Comme on essaye de prendre en conscience vos opinions on a décidé de faire ce changement-là. Au bout des dernières quelques mois il y a presque personne au Centre le samedi et c’est triste. On veut bien changer notre horaire pour que vous puissiez profiter du centre le plus possible. On comprend que la fin de semaine il est plus évident à trouver des trucs sympas à faire. Donc, dès le 1 mai ce changement prendre effet (cela veut dire que l’on est fermé le 1 mai – par contre on fait un lave-auto pendant l’après-midi, rejoignez-nous !). C’est-à-dire que mardi le 4 mai on est ouvert pour la soirée ! Merci à tous les membres qui ont voté. On essayera cette modification puis si cela ne marche pas, on trouvera une autre solution J

As you may already know, we did a survey of youth members to see if you’d like us to be closed on Saturdays and be open on Tuesdays instead. The vote was an overwhelming YES! As we like to take into account your opinion we’ve decided to make this change. For the past few months there has been barely anyone at the center on Saturday nights, and it’s sad. We want to change our schedule so that you can take full advantage of the center. We understand that it’s easier to find fun things to do on the weekend. So, effective May 1^st the youth center will be closed on Saturdays (that means that we are closed this coming Saturday – but we’ll be doing a car wash in the afternoon so you should come join us!). This means that Tuesday, may 4^th we will be open for the evening. Thank you to all of the members who voted. We will give this change a try and if it doesn’t work, we’ll find another solution J

Summer Trip News/Nouvelles du Voyage d’Été

See Canada’s famous CN Tower! Dine at the hip Hard Rock Cafe. Catch a Blue Jays game at the Sky Dome or maybe check out some legends at the Hockey Hall of Fame. Do a little shopping at the Eaton Center or perhaps see a cheetah up close and personal at the zoo. This year’s LYC summer trip will be to....you guessed it – Toronto, Ontario!

Here’s how it works:

The LYC summer trip is organized by youth for youth. The Teen Activity heads the organization of fundraisers and meetings, but everyone has a say in the planning process. The T.A.C meets on a monthly basis to discuss upcoming events as well as the interests of fellow members. Staff members are present to provide support and assistance and also attend the summer trip as chaperones and facilitators.

All members of the Lennoxville Youth Center are eligible to attend this awesome trip. Not a member but are between the ages of 12 and 17? Then stop by 168b Queen Street and have an animator help you fill out your membership contract. It’s simple, straight-forward and can be completed in a matter of minutes!

The final decision of participants in this event is up to the staff of the Lennoxville Youth Center. Participation in fundraising events as well as being an active part of the Youth Center are both incredibly important. As well, we pay particular attention to youth adherence to the code of conduct. This in turn gives us a good idea of who can/can’t remain respectful of others, property and themselves. The trip is meant to be a meaningful and rewarding experience for everyone, hence the reason why we evaluate each member to see if they are capable of being responsible, active and respectful during the summer trip.

As a general rule, you must participate in the majority of fundraisers in order to attend this trip. We feel it is only fair that everyone do an equal part of the work necessary to enjoy this free vacation. If you are unavailable to participate in a fundraiser for a valid reason, special arrangements can be made.

Interested? Well now’s your chance to lend a helping hand. Thursday, April 29^th,2010 we will be conducting a bottle drive throughout the borough of Lennoxville. All youth are to meet at the Youth Center at approximately 7:15 pm. If you’re not free that night then you have another option: Saturday, May 1^st we will be holding a car wash from 11am to 3pm behind the Town Hall. Again, all youth are to meet at the Youth Center at approximately 10:30am.

Faire un peu de shopping au Centre Eaton ou peut-être observer un guépard de vos propres yeux au zoo. Le voyage d’été du Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville aura lieu à….vous l’avez deviné, Toronto, Ontario.

Voici comment ça marche :

Le voyage d’été du MDJ Lennoxville est organisé par des jeunes pour des jeunes. Le Conseil des Jeunes gère l’organisation des levées de fonds et les réunions, mais tout le monde a le droit de parole au processus de planning. Le Conseil des Jeunes se réunit tout les mois pour discuter des événements à venir et aussi les intérêts des membres du centre. Les employés du centre sont présents pour offrir du soutien et assistance et seront aussi là durant le voyage d’été comme chaperons et facilitateurs.

Tous les membres du Centre des Jeunes sont éligibles pour nous accompagner sur ce voyage. Vous n’êtes pas membre mais vous avez entre 12 et 17 ans ? Venir nous voir à 168B rue Queen et un animateur vous aiderez à remplir votre contrat du membre. C’est simple, franc, et ne prendra plus que quelques minutes à compléter !

La décision finale des participants est prise par les employés du Centre. La participation aux levées de fonds et être actif au centre sont tout les deux importants. De plus, nous faisons attention en particulier à l’adhérence du code de conduite. Ceci nous permet d’évaluer qui peut/ne peut pas rester respectueux envers les autres, eux-mêmes et les biens des autres. Ce voyage est censé être une expérience enrichissante et significative pour tout le monde, c’est la raison pour laquelle nous évaluons chaque membre pour voir s’il est capable de rester responsable, actif et respectueux au long du voyage.

Comme règle générale, vous devez participer à la majorité des levées de fonds pour assister à ces vacances. Nous pensons que c’est juste que tout le monde participe de façon égale au boulot nécessaire pour mériter ce voyage gratuit. Si vous n’êtes pas disponible pour participer à une levée de fonds à cause d’une raison légitime, des arrangements spéciaux peuvent être faits.

Cela vous intéresse ? Bien c’est maintenant votre chance de nous aider. Ce jeudi, le 29 avril, 2010 nous allons faire une collecte de bouteilles dans l’arrondissement de Lennoxville. Tout les jeunes intéresses doivent nous rencontrer au LYC vers 19h15. Si vous n’êtes pas disponible ce soir-là, vous avez une autre option. Ce samedi, le 1^er mai, nous allons faire un lave-auto de 11h à 15h derrière l’Hôtel de Ville. Encore, tous les jeunes doivent nous rencontrer au LYC vers 10h30.

The Olympic Games Have Arrived!

The Lennoxville Youth Center is celebrating the arrival of the 2010 Olympic Games by holding our own! Every night from the 12^th of February to the 28^th of February we will be holding an event in which you can partake. Every time you participate in an event, you receive a ballot which you can submit for the chance to win one of six awesome prizes! Every time you win an event, you get an additional ballot, doubling your chances of winning one of our great prizes! Up for grabs is a super cool hoodie, a gorgeous scarf, a handsome men’s t-shirt, a classy woman’s t-shirt, a stylish key chain and a trendy water bottle. Stop by the LYC to catch all the action. All members are welcome to participate. Remember, it’s not whether your win or lose, it’s how you play the game!!!

Calling all hockey fans!

The Maison des Jeunes Danville has invited us to compete in their 2010 indoor hockey tournament on Saturday, March 20th. This is a competition between different youth centers which offers the opportunity to make lots of new friends who share your enthusiasm for hockey. The tournament starts at 9:30 am and will finish roughly around 9/10 pm.

We have until the 5th of February to sign up so if you're interested please let us know! As always, you can contact us via Facebook, e-mail (lenyouthcenter@yahoo.ca )or by phone (819-821-4805).

If you would like to know further details feel free to drop by the youth center and speak with an animator. We have a list of rules and regulations available for you to take a look at.

Exciting News! Des Nouvelles Sensationnelles!

After the counting of many votes in last week's election, a brand new T.A.C. has been created! The staff at the Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville Youth Center would like to extend a special thank you to all of the members who took part in this election, whether as candidates or voters. The first meeting of this new youth committee will be on December 16th, 2009 at 7 pm and will be led by one of our benevolent volunteers.

This is a very exciting time at the LYC and we the staff look forward to hearing new ideas and seeing youth take part in the organization and planning of activities once again. We wish the best of luck to all new elected T.A.C. members and promise to do our best to help you accomplish your goals for our youth center. Congratulations!

Après avoir compté le grand nombre de votes pour l’élection de la semaine dernière un Conseil des Jeunes tout neuf a été crée ! Les employées du Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville veulent remercier tout les membres qui ont participé à cette élection soit comme candidats soit comme électeurs. Your Youth Center is in Jeopardy and Needs Your Help!

Joindre le CJ c’est Faire une Différence !

As you may have heard through the grape vine, us staff at the youth center are feeling very discouraged by the lack of youth involvement at the LYC. There’s been a great deal of disrespect towards the center and the staff, as well as frequent lying, breaking of the rules and frankly, a WHOLE lot of laziness. If you care about our center then show it. You may sign up for the LYC Teen Activity Committee until Wednesday, December 2nd.

This committee allows you to make important decisions, plan events and decide how the TAC money should be spent (It’s over $1000). The meetings are only about once a month and if you work efficiently, they shouldn’t take any longer than two hours. If you don’t take the steps to join this committee or help them out, you have no right to complain about what goes on at the LYC. Is there something you’re not happy with? Then CHANGE it, by nominating yourself for the TAC.

Elections will take place by secret ballot from Dec. 3rd-5th, so stop by and vote for who you want running the activities at the LYC. The results will be announced on December 9th and a meeting will be held afterwards to decide who will fill each position.

**If you would like to nominate yourself for the TAC or vote, but cannot make it to the LYC, please notify us in a private message on facebook and we will mark it down for you.

Comme vous l’aviez peut-être déjà entendu, les employés du Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville se sentent découragé par le manque d’implication des jeunes dans les activités du Centre. Ces jours-ci il y a un grand manque de respect envers le centre-même et les animateurs, les règles ne sont pas suivis, il a beaucoup de gens qui mentent et franchement, on voit énormément de paresse. Si le centre vous tient à cœur, montrez-le. Vous pouvez vous inscrire pour le Conseil des Jeunes (autrement connu comme le TAC) jusqu'à mercredi le 2 décembre.

Ce conseil vous permet de prendre des décisions par rapport au centre, organiser des événements/activités, et décider comment dépenser le budget du conseil (plus de mille dollars !). Les réunions auront lieu environ une fois par mois et si vous êtes efficaces, elles ne durent pas plus de 2 heures chacune. Si vous ne faites pas l’effort de joindre le CJ ou au moins les aider, vous n’avez aucun droit de vous plaindre de ce qui se passe au centre. Y-a-t’il quelque chose qui ne vous convient pas ? Changez-le alors, en vous joignant le CJ!

Les élections auront lieu avec un scrutin anonyme (secret ballot) du 3 au 5 décembre, alors venez au Centre pour voter. Les résultats seront annoncés le 9 décembre et une réunion aura lieu après pour décider qui occupera chaque poste du CJ.

** Si vous aimeriez vous nominez pour le CJ ou voter, mais ne pouvez pas venir au Centre cette semaine, envoyez-nous un message Facebook (privé) et on le notera pour vous.

Xmas Sleepover Bonanza!! - Venez Dormir a la MDJ Lennox!!

Vendredi le 18 décembre on vous invite à dormir au Youth Center. C’est la dernière soirée que l’on est ouvert jusqu’à janvier, alors profitez-en ! On espère faire un échange de cadeaux, jouer aux jeux, regarder quelques films, manger des collations, se détendre et peut-être manger au Pizzaville le matin d’après. Si cet événement vous intéresse, inscrivez-vous au LYC car les places sont limitées. La feuille d’inscription se trouve sur le mur en face de la porte, et la date limite d’inscription c’est le 4 décembre.

**Notez-bien : Les employés de la Maison des Jeunes Lennoxville ont le droit d’interdire la participation à cette activité. Les décisions seront faites individuellement.

You are invited to spend the night at the Lennoxville Youth Center, Friday December 18, 2009. It's the last night we're open until after Xmas break so come see us before the New Year! We hope to do a gift exchange, play some games, watch some movies, eat some snacks, relax and maybe get some breakfast the morning after. Stand Up!

This week, as you may or may not know, is very special. November 16th to 20th is National Anti-Bullying week. Perhaps you’re thinking to yourself, “So what?” Well, it’s important for you to know that bullying is a VERY serious issue. It’s happening all around you: at Galt, on the school bus, on Facebook and yes, at the LYC.

Bullying doesn’t seem so bad when you’re the bully or the bystander but think about the person who’s on the receiving end. Do you think it feels good to have someone insult you, to fear for your safety or feel sick at the thought of going to school? It doesn’t. And it isn’t just the bully who is at fault. If you’re a bystander witnessing bullying and you do nothing, YOU are part of the problem. By not sticking up for that person, intervening, or going to get help, you are letting bullying happen!

Over the past few months we have become increasingly aware of another issue, online bullying. We’ve noticed more and more youth using online forums like MSN or Facebook to send insults, threats and to harass others. Bullying via text message is the exact same thing. You should all ask yourselves this question: If you wouldn’t say it in person, why say it online? Don’t be a coward and hide behind your virtual shield and if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all.

Thinking something's wrong is only step one... take a public stance on bullying on International Stand Up to Bullying Day. Wear PINK on Friday, November 20, 2009 and check out the videos below! Anti-Bullying bracelets are also available (for just $2) from some of your fellow LYC members. Just ask if you are interested.

Most importantly, if you are a bully or are being bullied and would like help, us animators are always here for you.

Hey!

The first week of November we are going to see Michael Jackson's movie, "This is it". We will let you know the specific date and time in the near future. You will have to bring your own money to pay for your ticket.

If there are 3 or less youth that want to participate, we will go by car. If there are more people we will go by bus. Again, you will have to pay for the bus there and back.

Question: Did you know that 2.4 million Canadians suffer from hunger?

Wanna help someone who needs it?

At the LYC we will be collecting non-perishable food items (or donations) to give to the Bishop’s University Meal Exchange. These donations will in turn be donated to the local women’s shelter.

This is really a great cause. Think about this: while we chill at the LYC chatting on facebook and snacking on Tuck Shop treats there are people living in alleys who haven’t eaten for days.

There are people in your country, in your province, in your town starving.

So please, stop by and drop off a can of soup, some noodles, a package of rice, ANYTHING will help.

We will be collecting until October 31st so let’s make an effort to collect lots and lots of food so we can make a difference.

Saviez-vous qu'il y a 2.4 millions de Canadiens qui souffrent de la faim ?

Au Centre des Jeunes Lennoxville nous allons collecter de la nourriture non-périssable (ou de l'argent si vous préférez) pour « Meal Exchange » de l'Université Bishop's. Vos dons seront donnés à un abri pour femmes de la région sherbrookoise.

Ceci est vraiment une bonne cause. Pensez-y : Pendant que nous sommes au centre en train de chatter sur Facebook et manger des bonbons du Tuck Shop, il y a des gens vivant dans des ruelles qui n'ont rien mangé depuis des jours.

Il y a des gens dans votre pays, votre province et votre ville qui meurent de faim.

Donc s'il vous plait, passez au centre et amenez une boîte de soupe, des pâtes, du riz, n'importe quoi peut aider.

Nous allons faire cette collecte jusqu'au 31 octobre alors faisons un effort afin de ramasser beaucoup de nourriture pour que nous puissions faire une différence.

Journée des maisons des jeunes

Saluuut! Hellooooo!

Samedi le 3 octobre prochain, c'est la journée québecoise des maisons de jeunes! Les 154 Maisons de jeunes du Québec vont faire plein d'activités pour que tout le monde sache qu'elles sont importantes dans la vies des communautés!!!!

Nous, on va rejoindre toutes les maisons des Cantons-de-l'Est au Marché de la Gare à 10h le matin et puis on va marcher tous ensemble dans la rue pour faire plein de bruit et nous faire voir! Après, on va tous manger ensemble un bon repas gratuit!!!!

Vous avez besoin de vous inscrire au LYC si vous voulez avoir une place dans une voiture pour y aller!
Nous partirons du Centre des jeunes à 9h30 le matin...soyez-y!

N'OUBLIEZ PAS QUE LE CENTRE EST FERMÉ CE SOIR LÀ!!!!

Saturday, October 3, its the amazing day when all of Quebec's youth centers (154!) celebrate their importance in our communities!

The LYC and all of Eastern Townships' youth centers will meet at 10:00 AM at the Marché de la Gare in Sherbrooke and from there we will march on Belvédere and King street making lots of noise! After the march, we all gather and eat a free buffet!

You have to sign up at the LYC if you want to have a ride. We will be leaving that morning around 9:30 AM. Be there!

DON'T FORGET THAT THE CENTER IS CLOSED THAT NIGHT!

Vendredi le 25 septembre, nous allons acceuillir un invité spécial! Johé est un batteur (joueur de batterie bien sûr!) d'expérience pour qui c'est super important d'avoir des objectifs, des buts à atteindre dans la vie. Il est un passionné et veut venir jaser de musique de ce qui nous allume dans la vie...soyez présent (à 19 h)!!!

We had PERFECT weather! Yay! Thanks to everyone for having participated in our amazing summer trip: Museum of Civilization, sleeping in teepees, Valcartier, Cirque du Soleil, going down the Jacques-Cartier river and swimming in cold water, shopping at Galeries de la Capitale...Yay!

Nous avons eu une température PARFAITE!! Merci à tous ceux qui ont participé à notre aventure de voyage d'été!!! Musée de la Civilisation, dormir dans des tipis, Valcartier, Cirque du soleil, nager et pagayer sur la rivière Jacques-Cartier, magasiner aux Galeries de la capitale..Wow!

Our hours will then be changed a little bit: We will take the bus in front of the center at 11:47 AM (be there earlier!) and come back at the center by 7:45 PM.
Because it will be a day filled with amazing discoveries and energy and and and...we won't open at night after 7:45.
There will be food from all over the world over there, so prepare your money or bring a lunch to have a wonderful picnic for dinner. Don't forget your snacks, bottles of water, cameras and anything else you might need.
There will be hip hop and latin dance workshops and many other cool things. We will also see our friends ALVARO and FELIPE dance! yay!

There are a lot of amazing activities coming up, PLEASE NOTE THESE DATES AND TIMES:

Tomorrow July 18 is the BBQ, fundraiser for the summer trip. If you want to go on the trip, please come and help. (Be at the LYC between 8 and 9 AM, and be ready to stay around until 5 PM)

This means that the center will be closed all afternoon because the BBQ is at the Townhall.

Tuesday, July 21 is Volleyball tournament in Sherbrooke. We will offer rides to our team (Roxy, Brandon, Derick, Randy and Mathew) at 12:15 at the center. (Roxy, we're picking you up at the Metro at 12:40). We have a free diner over there and so we don't exactly know when we will be back.

This means that the center will be closed afternoon and night Wednesday the 22.

Thursday July 23 is the famous Show des jeunes in the Parc Dufresne (behind the Centre d'achats Belvédère).
There will be a ride offered for Brandon, Yves-André, Kathryn and Genny at 4:00 PM at the center. If others want to have a ride too, there could be a possibility at 5 PM, just let us know asap please. The return will be around 10:30- 11:00 PM.

This means that the center will be closed that afternoon and at night (because we are gone!!!)

Tuesday July 28, we are going on an amzing trip to Richmond to go down the St-Francis River in kayaks and canoes. We will be leaving from the center at 8:15 and come back around dinner time.

This means that Wednesday, July 29, we will be closed all day.

Friday, July 31, we are going to the Granby Zoo and Amazoo (waterslides). We will be leaving the center at 8:30 and return around 8:00-8:30 PM.

This means that the center will be closed all day, we are gone!!!!

Absolutely fun night to come! This wednesday, June 3, we are doing tie dye!!!
We have a bunch of cool clothes, but we strongly encourage you to bring your own piece of fabric you want to reuse!! (cloe to 100% cotton, and pale!)
We wil also decorate our float that night, come create with us!

Yessss, the center is opening on a monday night! and we will offer free pizza!
Oh my god! We open at 5:30 and we meet for an hour at 7 for our annual general assmbly, your chance to understand who's running the center!

On the evening of May 6th, 2009, the Centre des jeunes Lennoxville Youth Center will host a fundraising Spaghetti Dinner event. This family event includes a three course meal (salad, spaghetti and dessert) from which we hope to raise $1000. All of the proceeds will be donated to a local family who has recently lost their home in an effort to help these members of our community (and youth center) get back on their feet.

We are absolutely counting on you guys to BE THERE and HELP in any ways possible. It's time to show how we respect one another by providing support to our fellow members who are going through a rough time. This is where attending the LYC takes all its meaning.

This week and next week, we'll start putting what we need together, and we will ask for your assistance.

We are hoping to get 100 people so START RECRUITING NOW!!!

Tickets are 10$, and it's at 6:30, May 6 at the Community Center (Amédée Beaudoin).

Le soir du 6 mai prochain, le Centre des jeunes de Lennoxville sera l’hôte d’un souper spaghetti familial offrant à la population une salade, une assiette de spaghetti bien garnie et un dessert pour seulement 10$. Celui-ci se veut une levée de fonds pour venir en aide à une famille des environs (comptant des membres de notre maison de jeunes) ayant récemment perdu son logis. Avec cet évènement, nous espérons amasser 1000$.

Nous comptons absolument sur vous pour ÊTRE LÀ et pour AIDER de toutes les manières possibles. C'est le moment de montrer que l'on se respecte tout un chacun en apportant notre support à nos amis membres qui traversent un temps plus dur. C'est en ces temps que le fait de fréquenter le centre de jeunes prend tout son sens.

Cette semaine et la semaine prochaine, nous allons commencer à préparer ce dont nous avons besoin et nous vous demanderons pour de l'aide.

Nous espérons acceuillir 100 personnes alors commencez à recruter MAINTENANT!

Africa at/au LYC

February is Black History Month and the Youth Centre wants to celebrate it! So we are having, on Thursday February 26, an AFRICAN NIGHT!
Starting at 7 PM, we will have african food to taste from Kilimandjaro Restaurant, an interactive presentation about community involvment and the contribution of important black personnalities to our society, and finally a presentation and a class of african dance, by the etremely talented dancer Kéméahalo Bidjako Abalo (yay the LYC is getting fitter and fitter with the 5/30 health challenge!). A youth who attends the center and is from Africa will also contribute to this cool event!

Bonjour à tous! La vie c'est beau et ça roule bien vite...alors je vous invite à la dernière minute...!

Février est le mois de l'histoire des Noirs. La semaine prochaine, jeudi le 26 février, nous aurons à la maison des jeunes de Lennox, une soiree bien remplie à saveur africaine. Vers 7heures, l'organisme Action Interculturelles de développement et d'éducation de Sherbrooke présenteras une demi-heure de conférence interactive sur l'impliquation citoyenne et sur l'apport de certaines personnalités noires à notre société. De plus, un jeune membre de la MDJ qui vient du Congo sera présent pour ajouter ses touches personnelles à la soirée.
Nous aurons des bouchées africaines concoctées avec amour au restaurant Kilimandjaro et, comme le Centre des jeunes a commencé le défi santé 5/30 au début février, nous poursuiverons notre mise en forme avec un cours de danse africaine donné par la très talentueuse professeure Kéméahalo Bidjaki Abalo. Elle et ses musiciens feront aussi bien sûr une prestation!

Nous espérons très fort qu'il n'est pas trop tard pour recevoir votre belle présence ici!

This is the schedule for this week's physical activities at the center:

Wed.: Walk around Lennoxville. Be dressed accordingly.
Thur.: Merengue class!
Fri.: LYC Challenge!
Sat.: Pilates class. Please dress up with comfy clothes, ideally no zippers, buttons, belts around the waist. You can bring clothes to change in and be able to change back in your normal clothes after.

February FFFF like Fitness!!!! Let's get fit this winter! The Youth Center participates in the Défi Santé 5/30 so for 6 weeks starting the frist week of February and ends March 14! Every animation shift, 30 minutes will be devoted to physical exercise! We need you for creative ideas concerning possible physical activities to do as a group! You should also be ready to bring snow pants when asked to. We will have a detailed chart here at the center and one to bring home for the participants in order to keep track of your daily 5 servings of fruits and vegetables and your 30 minutes of exercise. The whole satff participates too!

February 13 is a very important night for the center. It is answering the need voiced by you guys at the focus group to have a 'parents' night. We will open the center to the greater community for a night of entertainment and discoveries. It is also the necessary fundraiser for the trip to Ottawa where 6 youth and 3 animators go meet with people from all over Canada to create a network of great importance for future partnerships that may result in more trips and great activities. It is your responsibility that night to bring an adult (teacher, parent, grand-parent, friend of the family, aunt, uncle, coach...) who will contribute 10$ to the activity and will get free deserts from local bakeries and free fair trade coffee and tea. It will be at 7PM. It's time to show to the greater Lennoxville and Sherbrooke how motivated, creative, active and fantastic the youths at the LYC are!

Valentine's Day! Valentine's dance! Be there!

Teen Activity Committee elections. The TAC is the core of the LYC. Without it summer trips, cool field trips, any big activities don't exist. The Youth Center is there for the YOUTH. You need to make it your own. You need to get involved. So far 6 people will be running. It's still open to many more. 5 members will be elected, a president, vice-president, secretary, tresurer and administrator. If you have any question concerning the TAC please ask an animator. The election night will be on February 21, with the speeches, the votes and the results. Please come support your friends that night and all along their campaign.

The rule concerning the 11 years old is that they are now allowed to visit on Fridays and Saturday only.

Falling Famous

The Underground Project is proud to host a punk rock show this Saturday, January 17! Falling Famous, a band that have been composing its own songs for about 5 months, will rock the 168-B Queen Street! Andrew M. Jackson, the lead vocalist is from Ayer's Cliff and also plays guitar. Malcolm Buckle, from Waterville is the bassist; Raf Collard is the lead guitar and is from Lennoxville, like the drumer and back up vocalist Didier Prince. Our local artists have played in bands before and are convinced of the importance of music as an art form in people's lives, Andrew said. Music is also a way to have a voice as young artists, and so this is why Falling Famous plays original compositions about whatever inspires the members: pizza, pepsi, poutine or relationships...

The Underground Project staff is eager to see you all soon!

January gives you the opportunity to make LYC yours by getting involved in the Teen Activity Committee and/or the Board of Directors. The TAC comes up with ideas of activities and make them happen. It's very essential to a youth center reflecting YOUR interests and needs. The BOD oversees the good functionning of the youth center and votes for needed changes within the LYC. Ask the animators for more info on the positions to be filled and how to run for these positions.

We're having a great music show on the 17! Be there!

Janvier vous donne l'opportunité de mettre le LYC à votre image en vous impliquant dans le Comité de jeunes et le Conseil d'administration. Le CJ représente les membres et réalise les activités qui refletent les intérêts et les besoins des jeunes du LYC. Le CA s'occupe de voir au bon fonctionnement du centre et vote pour les changements qui sont necessaires. Demandez aux animateurs pour de l'info sur les positions qui sont à combler et comment se présenter pour ces positions.

On va avoir un super show de musique le 17! On vous attends en grand nombre!

Prepare your stuff for Arts and Crafts Night!: bring fabric, used clothes you’d like to give away or modify, beads, sewing kits, old jewels, fabric paint or markers, magazines we can cut pictures in, canvases and paint, ANYTHING you would like to use to make your Holiday Gift Exchange hand made gifts.

Girls: Get ready for girls night in advance! Choose your pj to wear, bring make-up, clothes you want to give away for our clothing exchange, games you’d like to play and any other idea of activities you’d like to do.

Dec.11: From 6 to 7: First TYPS meeting for trip to Ottawa.
All Night: Arts and Crafts Night! Make the gift you will exchange Dec. 18! If you can not finish it or can not come, you will be able to complete it in the art room any other animation night until the 18.

Préparez vos choses pour la soirée d’artisanat!: apportez tissus, vêtements usagés prêts à être donnés ou modifiés, billes pour colliers ou bracelets, vieux bijoux, peinture ou crayons à tissu, revues pour couper des images, toiles et peinture…en fait TOUT ce que vous voulez apportez pour fabriquer vos cadeaux pour l’échange de cadeaux le 18.

Sentence d’une nuit/ Night in Prison

Le 22 novembre, Krissy, Laura, Émilie et Yan ont vécu l’expérience Sentence d’une nuit à la Vieille Prison de Trois-Rivières, avec d’autres jeunes venant de la Maize (Maison des jeunes de Fleurimont). Nous avons été acceuillis pas Michel et T-Bone, deux ex-détenus qui nous en ont appris beaucoup sur l’importance d’une vie saine à tous les points de vues. Ces deux hommes nous ont communiqué leur immense foi en la vie et en le pouvoir des êtres humains de changer les choses en nous racontant comment ils se sont sortis du système carcéral. Chapeau! Vraiment une expérience inoubliable…surtout la visite du cachot et la nuit dans les cellules!

Merci à tous ceux qui ont participé à faire les gâteaux pour la vente et à ceux qui ont ramassé de l’argent cet été.

On November 22, Krissy, Laura, Émilie and Yan discovered what life in prison can be. We visited and slept at the old Trois-Rivières Prison with youth from the Maize (Fleurimont Youth Center). Michel and T-Bone, two ex-prisoners, welcomed us and made us understand the importance of a healthy life in all aspects. These two admirable men emphasized the need for believing that we all have the power to change things to improve one’s life in showing us how they got out of prison. It was a life-changing experience, especially going down to the hole and sleeping in cells!

At the age of 27, Chaplin is a complete artist. He began rhyming with a group named Prime Target back in 1996. He was only 16 years of age at the time, making him the youngest member of the group. He knew without a doubt that this is how he wanted to live his life.

Chap studied Sound Design and Music Business

In 2004, he founded RealMusiqc Inc. A production company that allowed him to exploit his beat making skills and his passion for Music & New Technology.

Chaplin loves going to youth centers. He even included the Laval Youth Center crew in one of his videoclips. He will be coming to Lennoxville to talk about lots of stuff....His take on school, the music industry, violence and any other subject you want to discuss with him.

à 27 ans, Chaplin est un artiste complet. Il a commencé à faire des rhymes avec un groupe qui s'appelait Prime Target, quand il n'avait que 16 ans. C'était le membre le plus jeune du groupe. Il a su tout de suite que c'était comme ça qu'il voulait vivre sa vie.

Il a étudié le design de son et l'industrie musicale.

Chaplin adore visiter les maisons de jeunes. Il a même invité les jeunes d'une MDJ de Laval à figurer dans un de ses vidéoclips. Il s'en vient à Lennox pour venir jaser de plein de choses: l'importance de l'école pour lui, son cheminement musical, la violence et plein d'autre sujets qui te viendront en tête.

* The play we are going to see next Wednesday is at 8 PM so you would have to be here for sure at 7.
* The LYC will be closed November 20 and 21 because the staff will be in training to be even more motivated!
* The baking for the bake sale will be November 12, wednesday night.
* The week of November 19 to 25 is Drug Awareness Week...any ideas for activities we could do?

Le mois de novembre est BOURRÉ d'activités, va falloir trouver le temps de respirer dans tout ça!

Mercredi prochain, le 5 novembre, nous allons voir 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' de Shakespeare. C'est bien sûr en anglais! Laura Fortier, membre du LYC Project underground, fait patrie de la pièce. Pour cette activité, nous allons utiliser l'argent ramassé par le TAC alors nous n'aurons pas besoin de faire de levée de fonds.

Un forcus group ça veut dire qu'on jase tous ensemble de ce qu'on veut qui se passe au Centre des Jeunes. nous, on a BESOIN d'entendre tes suggestions d'activités et tes opinions sur les règlements et tous les autres sujets qui touchent au centre. Pizza gratuite!

Wow Wow Wow sooo many activities in November!

Next week, Wednesday November 5, we will go see Shakespeare "A Midsummer Night's Dream". It'a a very cool play if you have never seen it. Plus we are going on opening night and Laura Fortier is in it. Yay! For this event, we won't have to do a fundraiser because we will use the money the TAC had raised over the summer.

Then Friday November 7 is our FOCUS GROUP with PIZZA.

Please come. We will be there to hear your suggestions about anything related to the center. Its very important that we get your input so that the LYC can work towards what you like. There will be pizza and we will talk. Unfortunately until the focus group is finished, we won't be able to play rock band, pool, go on the computers or do anything that is not related to the focus group.

On thursday November 13, from 7 to 9, we will have S.O.S. Grossesse visiting!
They will entertain us with their activity "Les Spermatos de Sherbrooke" . This activity is a fun way to talk about

SEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This same week, probably, I don't know the date yet, we will bake for our SUPER BAKE SALE!!! We need to raise money for many upcoming activities, including Trois-Rivieres' Prison.

We might also have a Rap signer from Montreal coming at the end of November. Depends if we made enough money at the bake sale!

On vous invite à l'activité sentence d'une nuit à la prison de Trois-Rivières. L'activité consiste à une visite guidée de l'historique prison de Trois-Rivières par un ex-détenu. Ensuite, nous passerons la nuit derrière les barreaux afin de vivre une expérience unique dont nous nous souviendrons longtemps!

Nous irons mi-novembre, mais la date précise reste à confirmer. Il faut se dépêcher à faire du financement pour rendre le projet possible! L'équipe d'animateurs du Project Underground (LYC) a finallement présenté son SUPER spectacle mercredi le 15 octobre!!
Alvaro, Steph et Will s'en sont donné à coeur joie! Ils ont dansé, chanté, rappé, parlé d'eux mêmes, de leur rêves et du pourquoi
ils adorent leur travail à la maison des jeunes. Ce SUPER spectacle a même été filmé mesdames et messieurs...
prochainement dans les cinémas près de chez vous! Non, sans blague la vidéo sera disponible au Centre bientôt, pour ceux et celles qui
ont manqué la représentation.

Project Underground (LYC)'s work team finally presented its SUPER show on October 15! Alvaro, Steph and Will rocked it!

Youpi nous avons eu notre place au débat des députés de Sherbrooke! Le 7 octobre, Stéphanie et Émilie du Project Underground, accompagnées d'Alex de la maison de jeunes Azimut Nord, sont allés passer à la télé! Et oui, ils ont représentés les jeunes en posant la question suivante aux députés présents:
Depuis le début de la campagne électorale, bien peu a été dit concernant les adolescents québécois et canadiens. Comme candidats au poste de député de la région de Sherbrooke, quels sont les orientations ou mesures que vous prioriserez pour voir au bien-être individuel et collectif des 12-18 ans ? (Question formulée par le RMJQ)

Natalie Goguen (Parti Libéral), Serge Cardin (Bloc Québécois), André Bachand (Parti Conservateur) et Yves Mondoux (Nouveau Parti Démocratique)ont répondu plutôt vaguement à la question donnée. La plupart des députés ont parlé de mesures s'adressant au 18 ans et plus...ouain. Conclusion: il faut vraiment que les ados fassent entendre leurs vois sur la scène politique et publique. Si tu ressens cette envie, s'il-te-plaît lance toi!

Salut tout le monde! (english version following french message)

Ce samedi, le 4 octobre, c'est la Journée des maisons de jeunes au Québec. Les 145 maisons des jeunes à travers la province préparent plein d'activités pour célébrer notre existence.
Il faut réserver ton samedi! Nous on va, avec plein d'autres maisons des jeunes de l'Estrie, au Parc Jacques-Cartier à 10h le matin, à côté de la maison Azimut (près du mini-golf). De là, on va marcher jusqu'au Spot, au Parc Dufresne (en arrière du Super C sur la rue Belvédère) en faisant tout ce qu'on peut pour faire voir notre LYC! Alors vous êtes plus qu'encouragés d'apporter vos instruments de musique ou vos costumes!
Toute la journée on va faire des activités sportives et artistiques et on a même un souper de fourni le soir vers 5h.
Pour le diner, par contre, il faut apporter son lunch pour le picnic.
Si vous voulez un transport, il nous reste encore 6 places dans les voitures, qui partirons du LYC vers 9h, samedi matin. Vous devez nous contacter le plus vite possible pour que l'on vous réserve une place.
On a hâte d'avoir du fun avec vous!

Hello everyone!

This coming Saturday, October 4th, is a day in honor of the 145 youth centers in Province of Quebec. Everyone is organizing a bunch of cool activities. We are too! We will be meeting at 10 am at the Youth Center Azimut, by the mini-golf at the Parc Jaques-Cartier. From there we will show our colors in a walk to go to Parc Dufresne (behind the Super C on Belvédère). Please bring anything that will make the LYC visible and heard, like musical instruments, costumes, anything you can think of. All day at Parc Dufresne, we'll be doing all sorts of sportive and artistic activities and we will even be invited to a free dinner. We do have to bring our lunch for the picnic at noon though.
If you need transportation for the event, we have only 6 places left in the cars that will leave the center at 9 am on Saturday. Please contact us soon so we can sign you up for one of these seats.

Of course you are in school that day, and missing school is not what we are encouraging. We had an awesome Friendship Day Celebration! Our Graffiti Activity was a huge success and we hope you all enjoyed it. For those of you who missed it, check out some of our photos from the event!

The Renovations are Complete!!

The Renovations on the L.Y.C. are now complete! Come visit and check out the many more things we now have to offer!

We have bought some new toys (PlayStation 3 with Rockband), and continue to improve our older ones (pool, air hockey, TV, computers etc).

We have many great trips planned for this summer, and are looking forward to seeing more of you in our summer hours starting Wednesday Jun 25th, 2008:

Wednesday to Saturday: 1pm - 4pm and 6pm to 10pm.

June 14th 2008 - noon to 4:30pm - FRIENDSHIP DAY!Saturday

- - - Join us in our outdoor Youth Centre in Centennial Park, and participate in our Graffiti Activity!

Wednesday June 26 2008 - 6pm - Annual General Meeting at the L.Y.C.

- - - Bring your parents, and come and check out what the L.Y.C. has to offer.

LYC expanding!

The LYC has expanded! We now have the space behind the LYC (where Dijitech used to be) and we are in the process of painting it. Our goal is to be done painting and move in by December 22 (the last day before being closed for the Christmas holidays). If painting is for you we would be more than happy for you to come over and help. If not, come see it anyway!

What is it? A FREE show for all your friends to attend! Exceptionnaly, adults 18 and over are also more than welcomed, but we suggest a voluntary contribution on their part.

Where is it? At the Underground Project, a.k.a. Lennoxville Youth Centre. 168-B Queen, under Cafe Java

What time does it start at? 7:30 my friend, 7:30!

Performances by 2006 winner of Battle of the Bands Rise of a Phoenix as well as Out Seek, another local band that you need to see now before everybody starts takling about them tomorrow!

Come in great numbers, but come clean!

Qu'est-ce que c'est? Un show GRATUIT pour toi et toute ta gagne! Les adultes de 18 ans et plus sont également les bienvenus, mais on suggère une contribution volontaire.

Où est-ce que ça se passe? Au Projet l'Underground, aussi connu sous le nom de Centre des Jeunes de Lennoxville. Ça c'est au 168-B rue Queen en-dessous du Café Java.

Friendship Day/Journée de l'Amitié

Lennoxville's annuel Friendship Day will be on saturday June 9th. The LYC will be recreating the youth center outside. We will have a freedom of expression board so come express yourself. We hope to see you there!!!

La Journée de l'Amitié annuelle de Lennoxville sera samedi le 9 Juin. Le centre va recrée un maison des jeunes dehors. Nous allons aussi avoir un tableau de libre expression alors venez vous exprimer! Nous esperons de vous voir!!!

Rubbage Round Up

This Saturday April 28th is Lennoxville's annual Rubbage round up. Help out the environment by doing your part to clean up your community. Come to the LYC at 9:45am and then we will head over to the Town Hall. We hope to see you there!

Ce samedi le 28 Avril est le nettoyage du quartier annuel de Lennoxville. Venez aidez l'environnement en faisent votre par pour la communauté. Venez au centre à 9h45 et nous allons partir pour l'Hotel de Ville. Nous esperons de vous voir.
